Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Anthony Foley from all at Na Bairneachai RFC. A touching tribute was also posted earlier this morning from the Connacht squad
Our season is well and truly up and running and again our fortunes are entwined with Connacht. For our first home blitz we hosted Corrib RFC and Gort RFC on Saturday 15th at Dangan. The weather held, we had over 200 children take part, and our catering department did us proud. Thank you to all who prepared food for the event and special thanks are due to Emma, Nadia, Georgina, Fionnuala, Sharon and Fiona who ran the kitchen. We would also like to acknowledge the generous financial contribution of Barna Village Dental, Roger + Katie, 2 of our parents who sponsored this blitz.
Our next blitz is away to Clifden on Saturday November 5th. Details of this event will be sent to you in advance via the Teamer app. We will need drivers on the day.
Our membership continues to grow. We have migrated our registration and payment system over to the Teamer web based app. This will provide you the parent with a better insight into all that goes on in the club. It will also allow us to manage the club more efficiently. Please register your child using the teamer link provided. We will make every effort to ensure your child receives his kit on the Saturday after your have registered and paid.
We will have 3 fundraising events before Christmas The first of these, ‘Your Club Your Country’ is a raffle organised by IRFU, who also have supplied the fantastic prizes. Full details of the prizes are here . BKRFC have 1000 tickets to sell at €10 each. The club gets to keep all the monies raised from this raffle. We ask that each family in the club takes one book of tickets to sell. Tickets will be distributed on Saturday October 29th and must be returned by Saturday November 12th
Our second fundraiser is our annual bag packing day at Dunnes Knocknacarra which will take place on Saturday November 26th. Training will be suspended on that day. We will pack bags at the checkouts in Dunnes from 10am to 6pm. We need at least 10 sets of parents and children for each 2 hour slot. You can register yourself here for this event and you can see who else has registered here
All monies raised by BKRFC are used by BKRFC for the development of the club and its members.
One of the perks of being a Rugby club is access to RBS 6 nation’s tickets. We will have 3 pairs of tickets available to purchase for both the 2017 RBS 6N England and France matches. To show your expression of interest in these tickets please complete this short online form here. The winners of the right to purchase these tickets will be announced just in time for Christmas.

Welcome back everybody to another season of mini rugby with Barna Knocknacarra Rugby Club. And what a year it has been for the club? We are 10 years old this year, our very first team is now knocking on the doors of NUIG RFC and will graduate from NUIG Academy this year. Just like Connacht rugby ‘from grass roots to green shoots’ we too are providing future players for our province. All good things however must come to an end and this year sees the graduation of last year’s under 12 team who now move up to the academy. We say good bye to three of our senior coaches who have led this team for many years. Ray Foley, Ger O Connor and Paul O Kennedy will shortly be heard exhorting the best from our newest under 13 team at Dangan. In another progression our very first BKRFC team of 10 years ago is now u17 and will graduate the NUIG academy at the end of this season.
This year, instead of burying our already slender admin resources in paper and cash/cheques to be lodged, we are asking all of you to register and pay for your children via the Teamer and Stripe apps. You can do this by following the link sent today to your email account or via text message. Registration for the 2017 season is set at €80 for the first child ,€150 for 2 children and €220 for 3 children. In addition to receiving a full kit in year 1, your child will also receive a hoodie in year 2 and a beanie hat in year 3. Thanks are due to Richie Ashe and Paul Grout for setting this up for the club.
You may have seen the recruitment roadside posters or flyers in your child’s school bag this past week. We would like to thank Brian Sexton of Musgraves and Clarkes Supervalu of Barna for sponsoring these and Val Mc Evoy father of Luke who arranged for their erection. PLEASE pass the word to your friends, neighbours etc that BKRFC are actively recruiting new members at all age groups from under 7 to under 12. With the popularity of Connacht rugby now, there is no better Parent/Child bonding, we believe, than over rugby on a Saturday morning.
BKRFC is run for its members by its members. We have 3 committees running in the club, The main club committee elected at AGM each year and 2 satellite committees, ‘The Pitch Committee’ and ‘The fundraising Committee’. In addition to these committees we also need help coaching the children, preparing hospitality for Blitzs etc. You can help by providing your expertise if you have any but more importantly your time to the club. It makes a huge difference in morale to our officers and coaches to see parents muck in and help the club. Please contact Tony or any of the club officers if you have expertise in fundraising, Public relations, Administration, Grant applications etc. Our children are only children for such a short period in their lives and it really does take a rugby village to raise a rugby child!
There are a couple of coaching courses coming up which would equip you the parent with the skills necessary to become a coach
- Stage 1 coaching. Fri 23rd Sept – Sat 24th. Sportsground
- Stage 2 coaching. Mon 10/17/24 Oct. Sportsground Please see Tony if you would like to register.
This video was shown at Connacht Mini rugby AGM and is well worth 5 minutes of your time #letkidsbekids. All the coaches in BKRFC will try to role model the message in this video and we ask that you as parents try as well, and together we can give the children a great season.

Our season is over, Thank you so much to all our players, parents and coaches for participating again this year. Watch your emails for a message from us. You will also be able to pre-register online for this coming season. If you could forward this onto your son’s friends, school buddies, neighbours then next year will be even better? 2016/17 REGISTRATION FORM

Our under 10,11,12 teams recently participated in the Connemara Cup held as usual at Carraroe, organised by an Ghaeltacht rfc. All our teams did themselves proud as usual with our under 11’s proving victorious again and winning the cup for a second year. ( See pic below)
Our under 7, 8, 9 teams also finished up for the year with a fun day on April 9th attended by Connacht Players Daragh Leader and Peter Robb.
Our final outing of the season took place last weekend, Our now annual trip to Seapoint Dublin for the country’s largest blitz, with over 100 teams and nearly 1000 players taking part, BK rfc along with 56 players in 4 teams, with 11 coaches and 20+ parents boarded buses at 06.30 and had a wonderful day in Dublin. Again we cannot speak highly enough of all the players who behaved brilliantly both on and off the pitch. (The parents and coaches weren’t so bad either). One for your diaries next year.
